Allison showcases at Ecomondo the 5th Generation Electronic Controls
On the Allison booth, visitors can learn about the new 5th Generation electronic controls.
At Ecomondo 2013, Allison Transmission, the world’s largest manufacturer of fully automatic commercial-duty transmissions for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles and hybrid-propulsion systems for city buses, will present for the first time in Italy its new 5th Generation (5th GEN) controls. An Allison 3000 Series cutaway display transmission, suitable for vehicles with engines up to 276 kW (370 hp) and one of the most popular Allison transmissions used in the refuse and municipal industry, will also be on exhibit.
Allison’s sophisticated 5th GEN controls offer a wide range of automatic and dynamic strategies to optimize shift points based on topography, load and operating conditions. Importantly, the controls are designed for easy integration with Euro VI engines, which are required in all commercial-duty vehicles in Italy beginning in January 2014.
Features of Allison’s new controls include a smaller, faster Transmission Control Module (TCM), new shift selector designs and advanced software that further improve fuel savings. Embedded in the 5th GEN TCM is an inclinometer which enhances vehicle efficiency by making the automatic selection between economy and performance shift schedules more quickly and accurately, resulting in further reductions in fuel consumption. This new generation of electronic controls also provides two additional levels of acceleration management to allow for an even greater ability to improve fuel economy by controlling engine fueling and moderating aggressive driving practices.
A variety of OEMs will be exhibiting refuse vehicles equipped with Allison transmissions at Ecomondo. Among others, the new Mercedes Econic and Renault Access Euro VI, both of which include an Allison 3000 Series transmission as standard equipment, will be shown at each OEM’s respective stand at the show.
