With the acquisition of Gruppo Ecosistem, SUEZ is strengthening its position in Europe, in line with its strategy of increasing its international revenue share by 2027. Italy, which ranks 2nd in the European Union in terms of industrial production, is a strategic growth region for the Group.

Gruppo Ecosistem was founded in 1988. It provides hazardous and non-hazardous waste processing solutions in the regions of Calabria, Basilicate and Sicily, via its Ecosistem Srl and Econet Srl subsidiaries. Gruppo Ecosistem also operates in Lombardia and the Abbruzzi through equity participations. All the market segments in which Gruppo Ecosistem operates represent major growth opportunities, relating to the treatment of industrial effluents, energy recovery from waste and the remediation of polluted sites.
Gruppo Ecosistem’s founders will retain an equity stake in the business and will continue to support its development.

Yves Rannou, Group Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer Recycling & Recovery of SUEZ said: “Gruppo Ecosistem is a leading player in Italy. We are proud to announce this acquisition, which represents a new phase of SUEZ’s development in Europe. It shows our ambition to develop a range of waste processing solutions that have recycling and energy recovery at their core, in order to offer our Italian clients increasingly circular solutions in support of their ecological transition.”

Salvatore Mazzotta, CEO of Ecosistem declared: “In a span of nearly 40 years, Ecosistem has grown from a used oil and batteries collection company into a leader in environmental solutions with more than 400 employees. Throughout our journey, we’ve always stayed true to our values of entrepreneurship, service excellence and environmental care. Joining forces with SUEZ, we look forward to expanding our offering with innovative solutions in recycling and resource recovery.”
