Fratelli Esposito to install the first automatic clothing sorting line using PICVISA technology at its Marcianise Plant

The Esposito plant in Marcianise will install a new automated sorting line from PICVISA, capable of classifying used clothing by composition and color, processing up to 2 tons per hour.

Esposito, a leader in Italy in the management and classification of used clothing, has signed an agreement for the installation of an innovative automatic clothing sorting line by composition and color at its Marcianise plant. With this new installation, PICVISA takes another step towards consolidating itself as a key player in the textile sector, bringing its advanced optical sorting technology to a crucial market like Italy.

The Esposito plant in Marcianise, which already handles 100 tons of used clothing and footwear daily, is one of the most advanced in the country, equipped with state-of-the-art 4.0 automation systems. Here, used clothes are given a new life through a meticulous selection and regeneration process, allowing garments to be ready for reuse and sold in various markets worldwide.

Recovering and recycling used clothing is essential to combat the environmental impact of the fashion industry, which is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions and produces 92 million tons of waste annually. For every kilogram of clothing reused or recycled, up to 3.6 kilograms of CO2 emissions are saved, and the demand for raw materials like cotton, which requires 20,000 liters of water to produce just 1 kilogram, is reduced. By extending the life cycle of garments, Esposito's efforts directly contribute to these reductions, significantly mitigating the environmental footprint of the industry and supporting the global shift towards a circular economy.

In the coming months, the plant will be upgraded with the new PICVISA automatic line, designed to classify garments into 24 different categories using a dual conveyor system with the capacity to process up to two tons of clothing per hour. This advancement will significantly improve efficiency and accuracy in sorting clothes by composition and color and will include an advanced product traceability system, allowing detailed control at every stage of the process.

This project is part of Esposito's ambitious strategic plan to continue optimizing the management of clothing destined for both the second-hand market and textile recycling. Thanks to PICVISA technology, Esposito strengthens its commitment to innovation and sustainability, ensuring that its operations remain at the forefront in terms of efficiency and environmental responsibility.

For PICVISA, this installation represents a significant step in its expansion within the textile sector, consolidating its presence in a crucial market like Italy. Esposito, in turn, continues to solidify its position as a leader in used clothing management in Italy and Europe and as a key player in the transition towards a circular economy in the textile sector.
