Anaerobic digestion at Ecoprogetto Milano
The plant is located in Albairate (MI) on an area of 40,000 m2. It has the goal of producing energy and high-quality compost from selected recycling sources.
The plant is located in Albairate (MI) on an area of 40,000 m2. It has the goal of producing energy and high-quality compost from selected recycling sources. The system will be capable of producing quality compost of a maturity level that will allow bagging of the finished product. Moreover, thanks to the new section of anaerobic organic waste digestion, it will be able to recover electricity and heat through the production of biogas and subsequent cogeneration in combustion engine. Thus the recovery will be maximized of energy and matter from the treatment process of organic waste originating from recycling. The material from the digestion is mixed with greenstuffs and is then loaded into biocells: the system used is by "Ladurner."
The intensive fermentation in bio-cell - with temperature, humidity, oxygen demand and air flow continuously monitored and controlled by computer systems - makes it possible to obtain a product in a stage of transformation that, using conventional systems, would be obtained after at least 1 month's treatment.
After spending time in the biocells, the product is moved to maturation yard in a suitable shed, and arranged in piles that are periodically turned and wetted to allow the humification process. The last step is to screen the mature product.
